Yosemite in January

Photos from a recent trip in January of 2010 to Yosemite. This was the first trip that I attempted and successfully hiked up Yosemite Falls. It was not as hard as I expected but it was fairly brutal. Never ending switch backs for roughly 95% of the 2,600 foot elevation gain. I highly recommend taking a break at the semi-hidden mid falls detour.

If you go during the winter and take the detour you can watch the falls go from water to snow. Check out the photos to see the mountain of snow that forms.

Yosemite Summer 2009

I recently had the chance to head to Yosemite in the summer with my brother and Chris. I still think I enjoy winter the most. However, I might be a bit jaded due to the fires closing our normal hotel and ruining our Half Dome hike.

Yosemite 01-08 Part 1

Recently, I had the opportunity to travel to Yosemite with a friend of mine, Christian. We talked it over and figured out now was as good as any time to run away from civilization for a weekend. So, we packed up, bought some new snow shoes and headed off to northern California.

The drive it self was filled with talk of what we could be doing in Yosemite. We had ideas of hiking to the top of yosemite falls and posting up at the Awahee bar to talk to ladies and interesting old people. At one point we even considered spending most of our time locked up hacking on some project. After hours passed we concluded that not having a plan would be our new plan.

The first day of our trip consisted of a few small hikes around Yosemite. Nothing particularly interesting except for one small lake, Mirror lake. This time of year most of the water in Yosemite freezes over. However this particular lake does not just freeze over with a small sheet of ice, it freezes over with a huge sheet. One so thick it could support the weight of both of us plus many small asian girls.

After a full day of hiking we decided to go to the Awahee bar and find some interesting people to talk to. Sadly there were not very many people around so we helped our selves to a few jack and cokes and some wine. Shortly after we decided to call it a night and head back to our hotel.

Sunday arrived and for some strange reason we woke up at 8am. Which brought a problem for us. How could we possibly spend all this day light exploring. We were fairly certain we did everything we wanted to do in Yosemite the day before. Around an hour later we finally decided that we would attempt the hike that would eventually lead us to one of the most amazing adventures we had ever experienced. The hike to the top of Yosemite Falls.
